Linebacker Logan Fano is the second commitment this month to commit to the BYU football class of 2021.

Fano will most likely prep at Timpview High School, along with fellow cougar commit Raider Damuni. Even though he hasn’t played high school ball yet, Fano is still accomplished on the gridiron, as well as on the basketball court. He was invited to the recent USA All-American game at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, and last season his team won the CYFL football championship and was offered a spot in the first Junior Olympics in Houston. In hoops Fano’s team recently won an Adidas tournament in Portland, Oregon.
Fano has not yet been rated by the major recruiting services and BYU is his first offer. I caught up with Fano to ask him about his commitment.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU? Why do you feel BYU is a good fit for you?
Fano: BYU has always been my father and late grandfathers dream school, so for me, it would be an honor to carry on their dream. BYU is also close to home, so my family and friends would all be able to come out and watch me play! And after meeting with coach Sitake, I love what he is building the program around, and I want to be a part of it.
BYU Insider: What do you most look forward to in suiting up for the cougars?
Fano: I’m really looking forward to representing my family and Heavenly Father on the field. And that’s a very rare opportunity that I have been blessed with.
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Fano: J. Cole, William Singe, and the Amanaki group, Naruto and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Fruity Pebbles, The Book of Mormon, The Percy Jackson series, the LA Chargers, the OKC Thunder and Utah Jazz, Allen Iverson, Russel Westbrook, and LaDanian Tomlinson.
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Fano: Before my Grandma Fano passed away, she told me after one of my football games something that I will never forget. She said, “In life, you have to have guts. You have to be willing to work harder than everyone around you. You have to work to be the best, because if you’re not trying to be the best, what are you trying to do? You have to have the guts to take risks. People who don’t take risks don’t progress, and they don’t learn, and what’s the point in that? We came here to learn and develop, and we can’t do that unless we’re willing to fail, in other words, we can’t get better unless we have enough guts to fail.”
BYU Insider: Who is a current player (collegiate or pro) that you seek to emulate on the field?
Fano: I want to play like Shawn Merriman (former linebacker for the Chargers). I’ve always loved watching him when I was younger, and me and my dad always watch his highlights (because he plays a similar position to mine). I want to mimic his nonstop motor, and relentless pursuit for ball carriers on the field.
BYU Insider: What are your personal goals for this season (2017)?
Fano: I want to record 15 plus sacks this season.
BYU Insider: Anything else you’d like Cougarfans to know about you?
Fano: That I know I still have a long way to go, and I want to continue to prove worthy of this offer four years from now.
