Consensus 3-star prospect Keenan Pili is the latest prospect to commit to the BYU football team (Class of 2016). He is a 6’2” 205 pound outside linebacker from Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. Pili is a big-time pick-up, choosing the Cougars over several P5 teams including Cal, Utah, and Vanderbilt. He announced his commitment on the first day of fall camp (August 8, 2015) via twitter:

Pili prepped at Pleasant Grove High School during his sophomore season (2013), where he recorded 15 tackles and an interception. He transferred to Timpview High School for his junior season, where he registered 73 tackles and two interceptions and was named to the Deseret News Region 8 second-team. He is currently on the Butkus watch list for the nation’s best high school linebacker.

Pili was rated 3-stars by Rivals, Scout, and ESPN (grade of 72). Rivals list him as the No. 6 prospect in the state of Utah, while Scout list him as the No. 1 outside linebacker in Utah and the No. 53 OLB nationally. Pili held scholarship offers from BYU (the first to offer), Cal, Hawaii, Nevada, UNLV, Utah, USU, Vanderbilt, Washington State, Wyoming, and Yale. He was also recruited by Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, USC, and Washington. He told Michael Luke of WildcatAuthority.com that he was looking to sign with a school with an attacking defense that would allow him to grow spiritually.
“I want to go to a place that plays an attacking defense that gets the linebackers where they can get downhill and attack the ball carrier,” Pili said. “Besides that, faith is a major part of my life and wherever I go it’s going to be to a place where I can further myself academically, athletically and spiritually.”
Keenan’s older brother Trajan is a Class of 2013 commit and will return from his LDS mission to Jacksonville, Florida in February 2016.
