I caught up with Roberts to ask him about his recruitment:
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Roberts: BYU has always been my dream school and I’ve wanted to play football there ever since I was a little kid! My dad played at BYU and loved it. I love the coaching staff, the atmosphere, the fans, everything. Also, getting a good education is a big deal for me and BYU has the best. It has everything an athlete could want.
BYU Insider: What other schools have shown you love in the recruiting process?
Roberts: Weber State has offered me and Utah has shown a lot of interest
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Roberts: Back to the Future, Gladiator, all Ed Sheeren songs, and anything San Francisco (49ers, Golden State, and the Giants). Also my favorite cereal is Reeses Puffs and my favorite sport is football!
BYU Insider: What are some of your greatest accomplishments?
Roberts: Definitely receiving an offer from BYU! I also got to play Varsity football as a freshman and sophomore as well as play basketball, baseball, and run track for the high school. I have also managed to keep a GPA of 3.9 in high school so far and that is a great accomplishment for me.
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Roberts: To just keep working! The ones who get on the field aren’t the ones who are the most athletic, they are the ones who work the hardest.
BYU Insider: Who is a current player (collegiate or pro) that you seek to emulate on the field?
Roberts: Several people have told me I play like a former Brighton wide receiver Simi Fehoko (Stanford commit currently serving an LDS mission). I have always tried to emulate him and play like him. I have looked up to him and his skills for a long time… I love his speed, his routes, and the way he goes up and gets the ball and I want to play that same way.
BYU Insider: What are your personal goals for this season (2017)?
Roberts: to win a state championship of course. We are going to have a great team and we’ll compete well. My personal goals to make this happen is to be leader and work hard. I want to lead the state in receptions, yards and TDs.
