BYU Football Recruiting Spotlight: Aleva Hifo (Class of 2016)

Aleva Hifo is a 5’10” 170 pound cornerback/wide receiver committed to play for the BYU football team. He was the fifth commitment for BYU’s recruiting Class of 2016.

Hifo preps at Heritage High School, where he has been making plays since his sophomore year. In 2013 he had five carries for 40 yards and a touchdown, completed four of five passing attempts for 92 yards and three touchdowns, and had 46 tackles, a pass deflection, a fumble recovery, three sacks, and three interceptions. In his junior season (2014) he was used more as a receiver and had 26 receptions for 593 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 30 tackles, a kickoff return of 48 yards, and three interceptions. He was named to the Inland area All-CIF first team as a receiver. Mid-way through his senior campaign Hifo has 25 rushes for 216 yards and five touchdowns, nine receptions for 248 yards and four more touchdowns, and a kickoff returned of 99 yards and a score. He also plays on the baseball team.

Hifo is rated 3-stars by Scout who list him as the No. 16 cornerback in the west. Rivals and ESPN rate him 2-stars (grade of 68). Hifo holds scholarship offers from BYU and Nevada. He was also recruited by Boise State. Hifo committed to the Cougars on February 16, 2015. He is the first cousin of current BYU linebacker Sione Takitaki.
