Prep Tracker, Week 7: Ben Bywater has 119 yards rushing with two touchdowns and nine tackles

prep_trackerEntering the second half of the prep season, several BYU commits are continuing to shine.  Notable performances this week included: Cameron Latu (2 receptions for 27 yards, 2 tackles, and a sack);  Jackson McChesney (14 carries for 80 yards and a TD; 3 receptions for 33 yards); Bentley Hanshaw (2 receptions for 42 yards and a TD); Donovan Hanna (4 receptions for 118 yards and a TD, two tackles, and two punts); Ben Bywater (14 carries for 119 yards and 2 TDs, a 12 yard reception, and nine tackles); and TJ Buchanan (4 carries for 2 yards and a TD; 7 receptions for 139 yards, 3 kickoff returns, 3 tackles, and a pass deflection). Game summaries for each of the commits are listed below.

Class of 2017 commits (listed alphabetically)

  • Tanner Baker (TE/DE, Alatoona HS, @TBAKE32). Allatoona (1-4) had a bye this week. It is unlikely Baker will be cleared to play this season due to a knee injury.
  • TJ Buchanan (WR, Elgin HS, @BeastTj3). The Elgin Wildcats (1-5, 1-3) lost a close one at Hutto 37-34. Buchanan had four carries for two yards and a TD, seven receptions for 139 yards, 3 kickoff returns for 29 yards, three tackles (2 solo), and a pass deflection. Season totals: 27 rushes for 151 yards, 4 TDs; two 2PT conversions; 29 receptions for 371 yards, 2 TDs; 12 KR for 160 yards; 4 PRs for 66 yards; 8 total tackles (6 solo, 2 assisted); 2 punts for 37 yards.
  • Ben Bywater (ATH, Olympus HS, @benbywater5). Olympus (6-1) defeated Hillcrest 37-7.  Bywater had another monster game with 14 carries for 119 yards and two TDs, caught a 12 yards pass, and had nine total tackles. Season totals: 87 carries for 452 yards and five TDs; 9 receptions for 74 yards; 46 tackles, 1 sack.
  • Donovan Hanna (TE/DT, American Leadership Academy; @donnyd119). The ALA Patriots (6-1, 3-0) defeated Florence 29-22. Hanna had four receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, two tackles (one solo), and two punts for 52 yards. Season totals: 28 receptions for 505 yards, four TDs; one carry for three yards; 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 assisted); 2 TFL; 1 sack; 4 punts for 114 yards.
  • Ammon Hannemann (S, Lone Peak HS; @Ammon_Hann1). Lone Peak (6-1) defeated American Fork 27-7. Hanneman’s stats are not yet available. Season totals: 8 tackles
  • Bentley Hanshaw (TE/DE, Moorpark HS; @BentleyHanshaw). Moorpark (4-1, 0-0) defeated Royal 31-14. Hanshaw caught a 33 yard pass on the first play of the day to set up a rushing touchdown two plays later.  He caught a nine yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Season stats: 12 receptions for 244 yards, 6 TDS.
  • Tongi Langi (DB, Bingham HS; @Big_Tuna24). Bingham (7-0) defeated Cottonwood 49-0. Bingham has climbed to a national ranking of No. 17 (Real Prep Nation). Langi’s stats are not yet available. Season Totals: 1 punt return for 60 yards, 1 TD
  • Preston Lewis (DE/LB, Lone Peak HS, @plewis_8). Lone Peak (6-1) defeated American Fork 27-7. Lewis’s stats are unavailable. Season totals: 1 sack
  • Jackson McChesney (RB, Lone Peak HS, @jackson21cheese). Lone Peak (6-1) defeated American Fork 27-7. McChesney had 14 carries for 80 yards and a TD, and three receptions for 33 yards. Season totals:  65 carries for 446 yards, 7 TDs; 15 receptions for 204 yards.
  • Ryan Rehkow (K, Central Valley HS; @r_rehkow24). The Central Valley Bears (4-1, 1-0) defeated Rogers 49-0. Rehkow had seven PATs. Season Totals: 4 field goals (long of 49 yards), 14 PATs, punts
  • Isaac Rex (TE, San Clemente HS, @Isaac_Rex1). San Clemente (4-2, 0-0) defeated Rancho Buena Vista 64-0. Rex recorded no stats. Season stats: 7 receptions for 82 yards, 1 TD
  • Seth Willis (OL, Newtown HS; @seth_willy). The Nighthawks (4-0, 2-0) smashed previously unbeaten New Milford 54-8. Before the game coach Steve George told the News Times that “Our offensive line is playing really well right now. We’re able to move people off the ball, and we expected that with the leadership we have, especially with (offensive lineman) Seth Willis.” Willis recorded no stats in the game. Class of 2018 commits

  • Campbell Barrington (OT/DE, University HS; @Campbel33563194). The University Titans (1-4, 0-2) fell to Gonzaga Prep 50-14. Barrington recorded no stats.  Season Totals: No stats
  • Brandon Ale Kaho (RB/LB, Reno HS; @Brandonkah0). The Reno Huskies (6-0, 1-0) defeated Hug 27-18. Kato’s stats are not yet available. Season Totals (through first 4 games): 41 carries for 363 yards and 10 TDs; 4 receptions for 63 yards (15.8 avg) and 1 TD; 1-1 passing for a 39 yard TD; 7 tackles (7 solo, 0 assisted); 1 TFL; 1 INT; punt; 4 PATs
  • Jaren Kump (OL/DL, Herriman HS; @jarenkump68). Herriman (4-2) fell to Pleasant Grove 13-0. Kump had three tackles. Season Totals: 14 tackles, 1 sack
  • Cameron Latu (DE/TE, Olympus HS). Olympus (6-1) defeated Hillcrest 37-7. Cameron had two receptions for 27 yards, two tackles, and a sack.  Season totals: 6 receptions for 79 yards; 43 tackles; eight sacks
  • Nathan Latu (DE, Olympus HS; @LatuNathan). Olympus (6-1) defeated Hillcrest 37-7. Nathan recorded one tackle.  Season totals: 11 tackles, 1 sack
  • Sekope Lutu Latu (K/P, Kahuku HS; @LatuSekope). The Red Raiders (7-1, 6-0) concluded the regular season with a convincing 45-7 win over Kaiser.   They have clinched the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Blue title and secured a first-round bye to the 12-team OIA tournament. Latu’s stats not yet available.  Season Totals:
  • Tyler Manoa (DT/T, Saint Francis HS; @tylermanoa). The Lancers (5-0, 2-0) defeated Bellarmine College Prep 21-12 in a rivalry game, dubbed “The Holy War”.  The win snapped a streak of 11 consecutive wins for Bellarmine. Manoa’s stats are not yet available. Season Totals: 13 tackles (6 solo, 7 assisted); 5.0 TFL; 4.0 sack; 2 QBH; one safety
  • Connor Pay (OT/DT, Lone Peak HS; @cpay73). Lone Peak (6-1) defeated American Fork 27-7. Season Totals: No stats.
  • Jacob Smith (OT, Rosemount HS; @jesmith4530). The Irish (5-0, 5-0) defeated Eagan 45-2.  Smith recorded no stats.  Season Totals: No stats
