Getting to know new BYU commit Siake “Apu” Ika (Class of 2019)

Siaki “Apu” Ika is a 6-foot-3 295 pound defensive tackle and offensive lineman who was offered a scholarship to play for the BYU football team last month (Class of 2019).

ika_apu_150pxIka preps at East High School and as a High School freshman already has D1 size at 6’3″ and 295 pounds.  BYU was his first scholarship offer and he didn’t need much time to mull over the offer—he committed on the spot.  Ika grew up in a hard core BYU family and has always been a fan and supporter.  He told BYU Insider that:

“BYU showed me love even at a young age.  That makes me feel that down the road the loyalty will always be there.  That’s a big part of why I gave a verbal so early.”

Ika is not yet rated by Scout, Rivals, or ESPN. While BYU is Ika’s first scholarship offer, he is also being recruited by Utah and Utah State.  Ika is a member of the LDS church and is currently planning on serving a mission.

A few more things about Apu:

  • Given name is Siaki
  • Listens to LDS church songs and slow jams to calm down before games
  • Grew up playing various sports and still loves playing basketball
