BYU football: Prep Tracker, Week 3

prep_trackerFour BYU football commits got on the scoreboard this past weekend in High School football action. Notable performances include TJ Buchanan (1 rushing TD, 2 receiving TDs, 38 yard punt return), Ben Bywater (68 yards rushing, 29 yards receiving, 3 tackles), Bentley Hanshaw (28 yard TD reception), Preston Lewis (1 sack), Cameron Latu (11 tackles, 2 sacks), and Brandon Kaho (2 rushing TDs, 1 receiving TD, 3 tackles, 1 TFL).   Game summaries for each of the commits are listed below.

Class of 2017 commits (listed alphabetically)

  • Tanner Baker (TE/DE, Alatoona HS, @TBAKE32). The Buckaneers dropped their third straight without Baker, falling to Cartersville 30-14. Baker has not yet been cleared to play due to a knee injury.
  • TJ Buchanan (WR, Elgin HS, @BeastTj3). The Elgin Wildcats (0-2) dropped their second consecutive game with a 35-14 loss to Brenham despite another great performance by Buchanan. He had a one yard touchdown rush, and three receptions for 106 yards and another touchdown.  He also returned two kickoffs for 37 yards and a punt return for 38 yards.  Season totals: 13 rushes for 63 yards, 2 TD, 1 2PT CONV; 8 receptions for 139 yards (17.4 avg), 1 TD; 4 KR for 62 yards (15.5 avg); 1 PR for 38 yards, 1 total tackles (1 solo, 0 assisted).
  • Ben Bywater (ATH, Olympus HS, @benbywater5). Olympus (2-1) experienced the first loss of the season with a 10-17 loss at Davis.  Bywater gave his all with 19 carries for 68 yards and two receptions for 29 more. On defense he had three tackles. Season totals: 39 carries for 135 yards; 7 receptions for 62 yards; 18 tackles, 1 sack.
  • Donovan Hanna (TE/DT, American Leadership Academy; @donnyd119). The ALA Patriots (2-1) lost their first road game, 13-16 at Sabino. Hanna’s stats for the game are not yet available. Season totals (through first two games): 10 receptions for 171 yards; 4 tackles (1 solo, 3 assisted); 1 TFL; 1 punt for 40 yards.
  • Ammon Hannemann (S, Lone Peak HS; @Ammon_Hann1). Lone Peak (2-1) was defeated by Bingham 42-21 at home. Hannemann’s stats not yet available. Season totals:
  • Bentley Hanshaw (TE/DE, Moorpark HS; @BentleyHanshaw). Moorpark (1-1) fell to Pacifica 17-20. Hanshaw had an impressive 28 yard touchdown reception in the loss. Season stats: 4 receptions for 105 yards, 3 TDS

  • Tongi Langi (DB, Bingham HS; @Big_Tuna24). Bingham (3-0) continues to dominate, this time taking down Lone Peak 42-21. Their first victories this season have been by an average score of 43-7, going against some of the best teams in the state. Langi’s stats are not yet available.  Season Totals: 1 punt return for 60 yards, 1 TD
  • Preston Lewis (DE/LB, Lone Peak HS, @plewis_8). Lone Peak (2-1) was defeated by Bingham 42-21 at home. Lewis had his first sack of the season in the loss.  Season totals: 1 sack
  • Jackson McChesney (RB, Lone Peak HS, @jackson21cheese). Lone Peak (2-1) was defeated by Bingham 42-21 at home. McChesney had one carry for three yards and four receptions for 79 yards. Season totals:  22 carries for 81 yards, 3 TDs; 9 receptions for 132 yards.
  • Ryan Rehkow (K, Central Valley HS; @r_rehkow24). The Bears lost 11-48 at Coeur d’Alene in their season opener. Rehkow had a 37 yard field goal to get Central Valley on the board in the first quarter, but it was all Coeur d’Alene after that.  Season Totals: 1 field goal (long of 37)
  • Isaac Rex (TE, San Clemente HS, @Isaac_Rex1). San Clemente (1-1) rebounded from their week one loss to defeat Huntington Beach 38-13 on the road. Rex had a six yard reception in the game. Season stats: 5 receptions for 65 yards, 1 TD
  • Seth Willis (OL, Newtown HS; @seth_willy). The Nighthawks don’t start their season until September 9th when they face New Fairfield.

Class of 2018 commits

  • Campbell Barrington (OT/DE, University HS; @Campbel33563194). The Titans opened their season with a 13-10 road victory over Sandpoint (ID). Barrington’s stats are not yet available.  Season Totals:
  • Brandon Ale Kaho (RB/LB, Reno HS; @Brandonkah0). The Reno Huskies continued to roll with a 34-17 victory over Carson. Kaho carried the rock ten times for 96 yards (9.6 avg) and two touchdowns, and also caught three passes for 53 yards (17.7 avg) and another score. He also had two solo tackles including 1 tackle for loss.  Season Totals: 21 carries for 196 yards (9.3 avg) and 3 TDs; 3 receptions for 53 yards (17.7 avg) and 1 TD; 4 tackles (4 solo, 0 assisted); 1 TFL
  • Jaren Kump (OL/DL, Herriman HS; @jarenkump68). After a good week one victory over Brighton, Herriman was simply destroyed by Herriman 0-45. Kump had 3 tackles in the game. Season Totals: 9 tackles
  • Cameron Latu (DE/TE, Olympus HS). Olympus (2-1) experienced their first loss of the season with a 10-17 defeat to Davis. Cameron had an outstanding game with 11 tackles and two sacks.  Season totals: 3 receptions for 43 yards; 22 tackles; four sacks
  • Nathan Latu (DE, Olympus HS; @LatuNathan). Olympus (2-1) experienced their first loss of the season with a 10-17 defeat to Davis. Nate’s stats are not yet available.  Season totals:
  • Sekope Lutu Latu (K/P, Kahuku HS; @LatuSekope). The Red Raiders (4-0) are destroying their competition. This week the casualty was Campbell, who they beat 44-0.  The Red Raiders have outscored their opponents 171-22 and are prepping for a Sept. 17 showdown with No. 1 ranked Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas).  Stats not yet available.  Season Totals:
  • Tyler Manoa (DT/T, Saint Francis HS; @tylermanoa). The Lancers (2-0) defeated Palma 8-7 on the road. Manoa had multiple tackles for loss and a sack.  Season Totals (through one game): 4 tackles (1 solo, 3 assisted); 1.0 TFL; 1.0 sack; 1 QBH
  • Connor Pay (OT/DT, Lone Peak HS; @cpay73). Lone Peak (2-1) was defeated by Bingham 42-21 at home. Pay did not record any stats.  Season Totals:
  • Jacob Smith (OT, Rosemount HS; @jesmith4530). The Irish defeated White Bear Lake 31-14 in the season opener.  Smith recorded no stats.  Season Totals:
