BYU was the first school to offer a scholarship to Romney when they offered this time last summer. Like so many of BYU’s early offers Romney was not rated at the time (no stars) and was not on the radar of most of the top colleges in the west. That is definitely no longer the case. With ten other scholarship offers in-hand and a recent breakout performance at The Opening finals, Romney is in high demand.
The 6-foot-3 200 pound wide receiver preps at Chandler High School (AZ), where he caugh 70 catches for 1,309 yards (18.7 ypc) and 10 touchdowns during his junior campaign. As a sophomore he had 48 receptions for 766 yards (16.0 avg.) and nine touchdowns, returned seven kickoffs for 154 yards (22.0 avg.), and one punt for sixteen yards. He is also a superb high jumper, going for six-feet zero inches in a meet in 2016, and measuring a 36 inch vertical. He runs a 4.49 forty, can bench 245 and squat 355 lbs.
Romney is rated 3-stars by Scout, Rivals, and ESPN (grade of 76), but will likely be upgraded to 4-stars on the heels of his Opening performance. He has received scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, BYU, Columbia, Hawaii, Iowa State, Nevada, Princeton, Utah, and Yale. He has also seen recruiting interest from Cal, Duke, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northwestern, and UTEP.
