BYU offers impressive high school sophomore who can out jump Mitch Mathews: Arizona WR Gunner Romney (Class of 2018)

Gunner Romney is a 6-foot-2 180 pound wide receiver from Arizona who was offered a scholarship to play for the BYU football team earlier today (Class of 2018).

romney_gunner_150pxRomney preps at Chandler High School (AZ), where as a sophomore he had 48 receptions for 766 yards (16.0 avg.) and nine touchdowns.  He also returned seven kickoffs for 154 yards (22.0 avg.) and one punt for sixteen yards.  He is also a superb high jumper, going for six-feet zero inches in a meet earlier this spring, and measuring a 36 inch vertical.  Jumping ability is becoming a staple of the cougar receiving corps, evidenced by Mitch Mathews this last season.

Romney’s other measurable aren’t too shabby either, especially considering he is only a high school sophomore.  He runs a 4.50 forty, can bench 245 and squat 355 lbs. Romney is not yet rated by Scout, Rivals, or ESPN, and BYU is his first scholarship offer.  However, he is also being recruited by Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and UTEP.
