Starting Over

BYU Insider, take 2.

I created BYU Insider in 2014 because I wanted to have a place to post whatever I discovered in researching BYU football. I was mostly looking for information about the Holy War and just wanted to have an outlet for my BYU passion.

Fast forward to 2023. Over nearly a decade I posted well over one thousand articles, and the site generated over one million page views. I even posted ads for a while and earned enough money to take my wife on her first cruise. I became a guest writer for the Deseret News, ESPN 960, and various blogs that covered BYU football. I interviewed hundreds of BYU football and basketball players and even got media passes to a few games. It was pretty cool.

But in December 2023 I put the site on hold. It was taking too much of my time and I needed to prioritize other things. The dormant site eventually crashed and I’m not sure if I can restore it.

I’m once again in a position where I want to have a place to write about BYU football. So I’m contemplating starting over. While I focused on BYU recruiting before, I’m not anxious to get back into that niche because NIL has made recruiting crazier than ever and there is too much to keep track of.

Instead, I want to focus on building a site where I can write occasionally articles, but dive deeper into statistics. I’m open for suggestions. What resources/articles/databases do you wish existed for BYU football and basketball?
