Moses Kaumatule is a 6’1” 254 pound defensive end for the BYU football team (high school Class of 2011). He redshirted in 2011 as a member of the scout team. He departed for an LDS mission (California Oakland/San Francisco) after the 2011 season and will play again in 2015.
Kaumatule prepped at Bingham High School, where he helped lead the Miners to three straight Region 3 championships and state titles in 2009 and 2010. As a junior he totaled 49 tackles and 5.5 sacks according to the Deseret News. As a senior he totaled 75 tackles, 8 sacks, and an interception. He was named to the 5A All-State First Team (2010) by the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune.
Kaumatule was rated 3-stars by Scout, ESPN (grade of 77), and Rivals, who ranked him the No. 6 recruit in the state of Utah. Scout list him as the No. 1 Defensive Tackle in Utah. As an early commit (February 8, 2010), BYU was his lone scholarship offer. He joined three other Bingham Miners in the 2011 class (Manoa Pikula, Baker Prichard, Austin Heder) as well a fifth—Harvey Langi—who changed his original commitment from Utah to BYU.
