Future Cougs in High School Football: Week 13

BYU football Class of 2016 commits from Utah have now completed their prep football seasons, while the out-of-state commitments are in the middle of high school playoffs.  Five commits saw action this past weekend with McChesney (Lone Peak) and Pili (Timpview)’s teams falling in Championship games, while Hifo, Tuipulotu, and Warner’s teams all advanced in their respective playoff series. Aleva Hifo and Hank Tuipulotu both had monster games to help their teams advance in the California and South Carolina playoffs. The following details Week 13 results and how 2015 concluded for most of the commits.

Commits still in-action during Week 13

Aleva Hifo, CB/WR for Heritage High School (Menifee, CA). Heritage (12-0) defeated Yucaipa 24-10 in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.  Hifo was the star of the game, running in for two touchdowns (18 and 22 yards). He finished with 12 carries for 107 yards and the two TDs.  Season Stats (11 games, missing last weeks stats): 55 rushes for 482 yards and nine TDs, 17 receptions for 444 yards and eight TDs, three kickoff returns for 146 yards including a 99 yard kickoff return for another TD, and nine punts for 322 yards (35.8 ave.). Heritage will face Cajon in the Semifinals of the 2015 CIF Southern Section playoffs on November 27th.

Jackson McChesney (class of 2017), RB/WR for Lone Peak High School (Alpine, UT). Lone Peak fell 17-14 to Herriman in the 5A championship game to end their season at 13-1. McChesney had two carries for -1 yard and caught five passes for 49 yards in the loss.  Season stats (13 games): 51 rushes for 283 yards and 5 TDs; 41 receptions for 733 yards, 8 TDs.

Keenan Pili, LB for Timpview High School (Provo, UT). Timpview fell 49-14 to East in the 4A title game to end their season at 11-2. Pili had eight tackles in the loss. Season Stats (13 games): 77 tackles, 1.5 sacks.

Hank Tuipulotu, TE for Nation Ford High School (Fort Mill, SC). Nation Ford (8-4) defeated York 40-21 to advance to the South Carolina quarterfinal game.  Tuipulotu had 12 receptions for a whopping 169 yards in the game.  Season Stats (12 games): 4 carries for 5 yards rushing, 1 TDs; 100 receptions for 1492 yards receiving (14.9 ave.), 7 TDs; seven tackles and one interception. Ford will face Westside on November 21st in the South Carolina quarterfinals.

Troy Warner, WR/DB for Mission Hills High School (San Marcos, CA).  Mission Hills (11-0) defeated La Costa Canyon 47-0 in the first round of the San Diego CIF sectionals.  Game stats are not yet available.  Season Stats (first 3 games): one reception for 25 yards, 7 tackles. Mission Hills will face St. Augustine on November 27th in the CIF quarterfinals.

Commits who have completed their seasons

Solofa Funa, LB/RB for Spanish Fork High School (Spanish Fork, UT). Spanish Fork ended their season at 5-6 and a trip to the first round of the playoffs (a loss to eventual 4A champs East HS).  Season stats (11 games): 67 carries for 357 yards, 5 TDs; 20 receptions for 243 yards, 38 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions.

Jaren Hall, QB for Maple Mountain High School (Spanish Fork, UT).  Maple Mountain ended their season at 7-4 with a Region 8 Play-in game loss to Salem Hills. Hall Season stats (8 games): 97-183 passing (53.0%) for 1336 yards, 13 TDs with 8 INT; 74 carries for 402 yards and 3 TDs.

Britton Hogan, LS for Olympus High School (Salt Lake City, UT). Olympus ended their season at 7-4 with a first round playoff loss to Corner Canyon.  Season stats (11 games): LS; 4 receptions for 33 yards, 3 TDs.

Drew Jensen, QB/S for Brighton High School (Salt Lake City, UT). Brighton completed their season at 7-4 with a first round playoff loss to eventual 5A champion Herriman HS.  Season stats (5 games): 12-36 passing for 241 yards and 2 TD with 3 INT; 6 carries for 3 yards and 0 TDs; one reception for eight yards; 15 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception for a TD.

Freddy Livai, DE for A.B. Miller High School (Fontana, CA). Miller completed their season at 2-8.  Season Stats (10 games): 68 tackles (30 solo, 38 assists), 3.0 TFL, 12 QBH, 1 pass deflection, 6.0 Sacks, 1 reception for 30 yards.

Atunaisa Mahe, NG/G for West Jordan High School (West Jordan, UT). West Jordan completed their season at 5-5. Season Stats (10 games): 47 tackles, 4 sacks.

Darius McFarland, RB/DE for Box Elder High School (UT). Box Elder completed their season at 5-8 with a first round playoff loss to Springville (after winning two play-in games).  Season stats (13 games): 69 carries for 321 yards and 5 TDs; 20 receptions for 299 yards and four TDs; 31 tackles, 1 sack.

Skyler Southam, K/P/DB for Wasatch High School (Heber City, UT). Wasatch completed their season at 8-3 with a first round loss to Bountiful.  Season Stats (11 games); 33-34 PATs (97% completion), 20-26 FGs (long of 53 yards) for 76.9% completion, 62 kickoffs  for 4524 yards, with 56 touchbacks; 34 punts for 1496 yards (44.0 ave); 37 tackles and 4 interceptions.

Wayne Taulapapa, RB for Punahou High School (Honolulu, HI). Punahou completed their season at 8-2 with a first round playoff loss to St. Louis.  Season Stats (10 games): 180 carries for 1107 yards (6.2 ave.) and 18 touchdowns, nine receptions for 59 yards (6.5 ave.).

Max Tooley, S for Bountiful High School (Bountiful, UT). Bountiful completed their season at 7-5 with a quarterfinal loss to Timpview.  Season Stats (12 games): 156 carries for 1128 yards and 12 TDs; 16 receptions for 109 yards; 2-3 passing for 40 yards; 93 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception, and one 45 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Keaton Torre, QB for Bingham High School (South Jordan, UT). Bingham fell to Lone Peak 26-9 in their 4A semifinal game to end their season at 11-2. Season stats (8 games): 38-79 passing (.481) for 554 yards, five TDs, and four INT; 31 carries for 3 yards; three receptions for 49 yards.

Jonah Trinnaman, WR for Snow College (Ephraim, UT). Snow College won the WSFL championship, completing their season at 9-1. Season stats (10 games): 5 carries for 38 yards; 46 receptions for 795 yards receiving (17.3 ave.) and 8 TDs; 17 kickoff returns for 576 yards (33.9 ave.), 1 TD; one tackle.
