This week concludes the regular season in Utah prep football. Here’s a quick look at how BYU’s Class of 2016 and 2017 commitments performed.
Class of 2016 Commits (listed alphabetically)
Solofa Funa, LB/RB for Spanish Fork High School (Spanish Fork, UT). Spanish Fork (5-5) defeated Payson 41-14. Funa had five carries for 29 yards, three receptions for 39 yards, three tackles and a sack. Season stats (10 games): 67 carries for 357 yards, 5 TDs; 20 receptions for 243 yards, 38 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions. Spanish Fork (No. 4 seed) will play East in the Region 8 first round playoff this week.
Jaren Hall, QB for Maple Mountain High School (Spanish Fork, UT). Maple Mountain (7-3) suffered a 22-0 defeat to Salem Hills, while their star quarterback Hall sat with an ankle injury. Season stats (8 games): 94-183 passing (53.0%) for 1336 yards, 13 TDs with 8 INT; 74 carries for 402 yards and 3 TDs. Maple Mountain gets a do-over, facing Salem Hills Tuesday night in a Region 8 play-in game.
Aleva Hifo, CB/WR for Heritage High School (Menifee, CA). Heritage (8-0) defeated Temescal Canyon 35-0 to stay unbeaten this season. Hifo’s stats are not yet available. Season Stats (7 games): 29 rushes for 266 yards and six TDs, 13 receptions for 378 yards and seven TDs, 99 yard kickoff return for another TD, and two punts for 47 yards.
Britton Hogan, LS for Olympus High School (Salt Lake City, UT). Olympus (7-3) defeated Skyline 24-17. Hogan registered no stats as long snapper in the game. Season stats (9 games): LS; 4 receptions for 33 yards, 3 TDs. The Olympus Titans has a home playoff game vs. Corner Canyon on Friday.
Drew Jensen, QB/S for Brighton High School (Salt Lake City, UT). Brighton (7-3) was defeated by Bingham 30-0. They missed Jensen’s mobility under center as he replacement was sacked nine times and threw three interceptions. Season stats (4 games): 12-36 passing for 241 yards and 2 TD with 3 INT; 6 carries for 3 yards and 0 TDs; 11 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception for a TD. Brighton will travel to Herriman for its first round playoff matchup.
Freddy Livai, DE for A.B. Miller High School (Fontana, CA). Miller (2-6) was defeated 48-26 by Yucaipa. Livai had nine tackles (four solo, five assisted) and a quarterback hurry. Season Stats (8 games): 49 tackles (25 solo, 24 assists), 3 TFL, 10 QBH, 5 Sacks, 1 reception for 30 yards.
Atunaisa Mahe, NG/G for West Jordan High School (West Jordan, UT). West Jordan (5-4) defeated Copper Hills 49-13. Game stats not yet available. Season Stats (through first 8 games): 39 tackles, 3 sacks. West Jordan will face off at undefeated Lone Peak for their first round playoff matchup on Friday.
Darius McFarland, RB/DE for Box Elder High School (UT). Box Elder (3-7) was defeated 42-28 by Bountiful. McFarland’s stats are not yet available but he did have one touchdown reception in the loss. Season stats (9 games): 65 carries for 293 yards and 5 TDs; 16 receptions fro 237 yards and three TDs; 21 tackles. Box Elder finished the regular season in a three-way tie for the last playoff spot. They will face Bonneville (and possibly Woods Cross) in a play-in game on Tuesday.
Keenan Pili, LB for Timpview High School (Provo, UT). Timpview (8-1) had a bye. Season Stats (9 games): 50 tackles, 1 sack. Timpview will face off against the winner of the No. 4 seed play-in game (Skyline, Cyprus, or HIllcrest) in this weeks first round playoff matchup.
Skyler Southam, K/P/DB for Wasatch High School (Heber City, UT). Wasatch (8-2) defeated Uintah 42-14. Southam had six PATs and a tackle. Season Stats (10 games); 31-32 PATs, 19-25 FGs (long of 53 yards), 58 kickoffs with 49 touchbacks; 31 punts for 1378 yards (44.5 ave); 37 tackles and 4 interceptions. Wasatch will host Bountiful for their first round playoff matchup.
Max Tooley, S for Bountiful High School (Bountiful, UT). Bountiful (5-4) defeated Box Elder 42-28. Tooley had two touchdown runs but the rest of his individual statistics are not yet available. Season Stats (10 games): 115 carries for 739 yards and 9 TDs; 9 receptions for 40 yards; 1-2 passing for 40 yards; 72 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception. Bountiful plays at Timpview on Friday for their first round playoff matchup.
Keaton Torre, QB for Bingham High School (South Jordan, UT). Bingham (8-1) put a stamp on their season by convincingly shutting down Brighton 30-0. Torre recorded no statistics for the game. Season stats (through first 6 games): 23-48 passing (.479) for 379 yards, four TDs, and 2 INT; 25 carries for 6 yards; one reception for 10 yards.
Jonah Trinnaman, WR for Snow College (Ephraim, UT). Snow College (7-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 48-27 victory over Pima Community College, earning them a home field advantage in the playoffs. Trinnaman had had two receptions for 98 yards including a 81 yard touchdown. He also had two carries for 18 yards and three kickoff returns for 57 yards. Trinnaman finishes the regular season as the No. 1 kick returner in the country (34.6) and No. 6 in yards per reception (19.2). Season stats (8 games): 4 rush for 30 yards; 31 receptions for 595 yards receiving (19.2 ave.) and 6 TDs; 15 kickoff returns, 519 yards (34.6 ave.), 1 TD.
Hank Tuipulotu, TE for Nation Ford High School (Fort Mill, SC). Nation Ford (5-4) was defeated by Northwestern 48-25. Tuipulotu had six receptions for 130 yards (21.7 ave) and one touchdown. Season Stats (9 games): 4 carries for 5 yards rushing, 1 TDs; 74 receptions for 1094 yards receiving, 7 TDs; seven tackles and one interception.
Troy Warner, WR/DB for Mission Hills High School (San Marcos, CA). Mission Hills (8-0) defeated Del Norte 41-7. They have defeated their opponents 273-31 in their last seven games. Game stats are not yet available. Season Stats (first 3 games): one reception for 25 yards, 7 tackles.
Class of 2017 Commits
Jackson McChesney, RB/WR for Lone Peak High School (Alpine, UT). Lone Peak (10-0) finished the regular season unbeaten with a 30-0 victory over Herriman, and became the outright Region Four champions. McChesney had three carries for eight yards. Season stats (10 games): 42 rushes for 258 yards and 4 TDs; 26 receptions for 448 yards, 5 TDs. Lone Peak will play the winner of the Region 4 No. 4 seed play-in winner in the first round of the playoffs.
