Maldonado preps at Bishop Amat High School, where as a sophomore he started and had 17 solo and 17 assisted tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks. He was named to the All-Mission League second team. as well as the All-State team. He is not yet rated by Rivals, Scout, or ESPN, but has gotten some recruiting interest from Dixie State, Cantaloupe, and Whittier College.
