Introducing BYU Basketball walk-on Davin Guinn

guinn_tnLast night new walk-on Davin Guinn earned his first statistics for the BYU basketball team. The 6’5” 190 pound sophomore from Murrieta, California had two rebounds and an assist in the game’s final two and a half minutes.

He is a transfer from UC-Riverside where as a freshman in 2012-13 he averaged 4.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game in 20 games (starting four). After his freshman season he served an LDS mission to Puebla, Mexico and then transferred to BYU. He was added to the roster on December 16th (upgraded from practice squad) after Jake Toolson announced he would not be playing for the rest of the season due to health.

As a prep at Vista Murrieta High School (Murrieta, CA) Guinn played in six games as a sophomore and averaged 9.2 points and 7.3 rebounds. He lettered and made the academic all-league team. As a junior he started and averaged 18.0 points and 8.4 rebounds.   He was a first-team all-league selection, second-team All-CIF, and academic all-league. During his senior season he averaged 23.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. He was a first-team all-league selection, academic all-league, first-team All-CIF, and first-team All-Valley selection.

He ended his prep career as the all-time leading scorer at Vista Murrieta and set the record for the most points averaged in a single-season at (23.3). He also tied the school record for the most points scored in a single game with 34. In addition to basketball Guinn ran for the track team (800m 4x400m), graduated sixth in his class with a 4.32 GPA, is a nationally-certified pianist, and an Eagle scout.
