Esplin is a 6-foot-9 250-pound defensive end that preps at La Costa Canyon High School (Encinitas, California). He can play on both the offensive and defensive line and he lined up at both tackle positions as a senior, his third year of organized football. Esplin also contributed on special teams, blocking a kick.
Following his senior season Esplin was invited to the Alex Spanos All-Star Classic (longest running all-star game in California) as an offensive lineman. Esplin threw shot put and discuss on the Track and Field team and has also participated in rugby and volleyball.
A developmental player that came in under-the-radar, coach Preston Hadley first saw him at a BYU camp last summer and offered him at the conclusion of camp. At 6-foot-9 Esplin has a high ceiling and could develop at several different positions on both offense and defense. Esplin is rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8361).
