Getting to Know Newest BYU Basketball Commit Trey Stewart (Class of 2019)

The newest BYU basketball commit is Trey Stewart, a 6-foot-3 195 pound guard from American Fork, Utah.

Stewart preps at American Fork high school where he averaged 14.8 points during his senior campaign, being named to the All-State first-team.  As a junior he averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.   

Stewart has not yet been rated by 247Sports. He holds scholarship offers from Denver, North Carolina A&T, Utah Valley and Weber State. Stewart’s father Ray played college ball at UVU (1989-90) and UC-Santa Barbara, and is currently an assistant on the BYU women’s basketball team.  Stewart plans to serve an LDS mission to England prior to enrolling at BYU for the 2021-22 season.

I caught up with Stewart to ask him about his recruiting.

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?

Stewart:  It’s an amazing school and they have an amazing coaching staff. 

BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?

Stewart:  Denver, UVU

BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?

Stewart:  Superhero movies. Any oldies or old jazz for music. Eggs.

BYU Insider: What is one of your greatest accomplishment in sports?

Stewart:  Winning the State Championship.

BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Stewart:  “Work hard and have fun, but stay focused on your goals”

BYU Insider: Who is a current player that you seek to emulate on the court?

Stewart:  D’Angelo Russell (Brooklyn Nets) and Damian Lillard (Portland Trailblazers)

Stewart:  I’m excited to get back from my mission and contribute to the program
