
Coming off a 2020 season where the Cougs went 11-1 with a top 15 finish is going to bring some attention to your program. BYU capitalized on that with five players being selected in the 2021 NFL draft and a record 28 former Cougs signing with NFL teams in 2021.
The attention continues to come in for BYU with several players being named to 2021 watch lists for individual achievements in college football. Here is who has been named thus far:
Jake Oldroyd – Lou Groza award
Payton Wilgar – Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Butkus Award
James Empey – Outland Trophy, Rimington Trophy, Good Works Team
Isaac Rex – John Mackey Award
Gunner Romney – Biletnikoff Award
Tyler Allgeier – Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award

Payton Wilgar (LB), named to the watchlist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given annually to the nations best defensive player. 90 players are on this list. He was also named to the watchlist for the Butkus Award, honoring the nation’s best linebackers. 51 linebackers are on that list.

James Empey (C) has been named to the Outland Trophy watchlist, awarded annually to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman. 80 are on that watchlist. He has also been named to the Rimington Trophy watchlist, presented to the nation’s premier center. There are 40 players on that watchlist. He has also been named to the All-State AFCA Good Works Team, given to players who demonstrate exceptional leadership on and off the football field. There are 109 nominees for that list.

Isaac Rex (TE) has been named to the John Mackey award watchlist, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding tight end. There are 56 players on that list.

Gunner Romney (WR) has been named to the Biletnikoff Award watchlist, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding receiver. There are 50 players on that watchlist.

Tyler Allgeier (RB) has been named to the Doak Walker Award watchlist, awarded annually to the nation’s best running back. There are 90 players on that list. He has also been named to the Maxwell Award watchlist, awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. There are 80 on that list.
