Recruiting Profile: Tausili Fiatoa (DE, Class of 2019)

Defensive end Tausili Fiatoa was the first verbal commitment for the BYU football team Class of 2019.

Fiatoa was offered and committed to BYU as just a ninth grader who had recently moved from Kahuku, Hawaii to Orem, Utah to play football for Timpview. As a freshman he saw action in five games, recording 12 tackles and a sack. In eight grade he spent time as defensive end and outside linebacker, ending the 11-0 season with 12 tackles for loss, 45 tackles, and 12 sacks. He was the Junior Prep League Defensive Player of the Year. Last March he finished the Hawaii Nike Football Combine ranked as the fifth-highest player out of 179, and first among defensive linement with a 49.86 SPARQ rating.

Fiatoa is rated 4-stars by Scout, and has not yet been rated by Rivals or ESPN.  BYU was his second scholarship offer (after Oregon State, who offered him in 8th grade).  His offer list now includes BYU, Fresno State, Oregon State, and Utah State. He has also seen recruiting interest from Washington.  As the oldest of five Fiatoa children, Tausili will be the first but probably not the last in his family to play Division 1 football. He commited to the Cougs on February 22, 2016.
