Talmage Gunther: WR #36, Class of 2016

Talmage Gunther is a 6-foot-0 195-pound wide receiver for Brigham Young University, recruited as part of the Class of 2016.

BYU summary: In two seasons at BYU (roster years 2020-2021), Gunther has played in 25 games, primarily on special teams.  He has two carries for eight yards, has returned four punts for 17 yards, and has four tackles (three solo) and a forced fumble (BYUcougars.com).

  • 2022 (Sophomore).
  • 2021 (Freshman). Played in 13 games, had two punt returns for seven yards, had two solo tackles and a forced fumble
  • 2020 (COVID Freshman). Played in 12 games, had two carries for eight yards, returned two punts for 10 yards, had two tackles (one solo)
  • 2019 (Redshirt). Member of scout team
  • 2017-2018 (LDS mission). Harare, Zimbabwe

High School. Gunther prepped at Lone Peak High School (Cedar Hills, Utah), where in two seasons at quarterback he went 244-for-404 (.604) for 3,589 yards and 45 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.  He also rushed 203 times in his career for 1353 yards and 12 more scores (MaxPreps).  He led the Knights to a 13-1 record with the only loss coming in the state finals.

Recruitment. Gunther had a scholarship offer to Snow College and preferred walk-on offers from Utah State, Weber State and Dartmouth, with interest from SUU and Duke.  He committed to BYU as a preferred walk-on on February 2, 2016.
