BYU Football Profile: Squally Canada (Class of 2014), Washington State transfer

Bryant “Squally” Canada is a 5’11” 180 pound running back for the BYU football team (High School Class of 2014). He originally signed with and redshirted his freshman season at Washington State but transferred to BYU in 2015. He will sit out the 2015 season per NCAA transfer rules and then have three years to play three season starting in 2016. He announced his transfer decision on December 13, 2014 after an on-campus visit.

canada_squally_ls1Canada prepped at Milpitas High School (CA), where he broke the all-time program single-season rushing record with 1,916 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. He also had two touchdown catches and averaged 18.8 yards on 6 receptions. He was named a first team All-Mercury News running back, held a No. 13 ranking in the San Francisco’s top 25 prep football players, and was Second Team as the Offensive MVP of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League DeAnza Division. The USA called him the ‘Coug’s best get’ in regards to Washington State’s 2014 recruiting class. He also ran for 987 yards and six touchdowns and make 36 tackles as a junior.

canada_squally_ls3Canada was rated 3-stars by Rivals and Scout, who ranked him the No. 10 running back in the west. ESPN rated him 4-stars (grade of 81). Canada originally held scholarship offers from Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Houston, Nevada, Oregon State, San Jose State, and Washington State. He was also recruited by Oregon. Canada originally committed to Boise State, the first to offer him a scholarship. When recruiting heated up he decommited and signed with WSU. For undisclosed reasons he left the team on October 21, 2014.
