Solofa Funa is a 6’2” 225 pound outside linebacker/tight end from Spanish Fork High School that is committed to play for the BYU football team (Class of 2016).
Prior to playing for Spanish Fork, Funa prepped at Servite High School in Anaheim, CA, the school that produced current Cougars Jherremya Leuta-Douyere and Butch Pau’u. At Spanish Fork he’s played all over the field, as running back, slot receiver, defensive end, inside linebacker, and tight end. He’s projected to play outside linebacker for the Cougs. He also competes in the shot put, discus, and javelin for the Spanish Fork track team.
Funa is rated 2-stars by Rivals and Scout. ESPN rates him 3-stars (grade of 71) and list him as the No. 13 prospect from the state of Utah. He was recruited by Boise State, Oregon State, Utah and Utah State. Funa committed to the Cougars during the summer of 2014 but word didn’t reach the press until March 30, 2015. Funa plans to serve an LDS mission straight from High School and then return to play at BYU. Solofa Funa told Total Blue Sports that:
“I decided to commit because I’m LDS and BYU is a place that has my values. They saw something in me that they liked a long time ago. Even though I committed to BYU a while ago they still treat me great. They always send me letters and let me know that they’re excited for me to come and play and all that.”
