Six Cougars start in NFL preseason Week 2: BYU FB Pro Tracker

The Cougars had six alumni start for their teams in the second week of NFL preseason games.  Most notable was that Taysom Hill got the start for New Orlean’s and played 49% of their offensive snaps.  It was a rough outing for him despite completing 11-of-15 passes and having a 43 yard run, as he was responsible for four turnovers (two INTs and two fumbles).

Other starters in week two included Ziggy Ansah, Michael Davis, John Denney, Kyle Van Noy, and Jamaal Williams.  BYU also had 11 alumni come in as substitutes while two sat with injuries (Harvey Langi and Daniel Sorensen).

The following are the summaries and snap counts for each of the 19 Cougars currently on NFL rosters.  Players are listed alphabetically by last name.

Ezekiel Ansah (DE, Detroit, No. 94). Ansah had two solo tackles in Detroit’s 30-17 loss to the New York Giants. He played 18 defensive snaps (31%) and one special teams snap (4%).

Algie Brown (FB, Kansas City, No. 30). Brown came in as a substitute in Kansas City’s 28-14 victory over Atlanta.  He played six offensive snaps (9%) and one special teams snap (5%).

Michael Davis (CB, Los Angeles, No. 43). Davis started at cornerback in LA’s 24-14 victory over Seattle.  He recorded four solo tackles, playing 35 defensive snaps (56%) and four special teams snaps (14%).

John Denney (LS, Miami, No. 92).  Denny handled long snapping duties in Miami’s 27-20 loss to Carolina.  He played four special teams snaps (14%) and recorded no stats.

Micah Hannemann (DB, Cleveland, No. 35). Hannemann came in as a substitute in Cleveland’s 19-17 loss to Buffalo. He recorded two solo tackles, and one assisted tackle.  Hannemann played 21 defensive snaps (30%) and two special teams snaps (6%).

Taysom Hill (QB, New Orleans, No. 7).  Hill was the starting quarterback in New Orlean’s 20-15 loss to Arizona.  He rushed three times for 43 yards, and completed 11-of-15 passes for 68 yards, with two interceptions.  He also fumbled three times, losing two of the fumbles. He also recorded two tackles. He played 31 offensive snaps (49%).
Preseason Totals: Two games, 19-for-24 passing for 140 yards, two interceptions, 10 rushes for 95 yards, one touchdown, two tackles, three fumbles

Bronson Kaufusi (DE, Baltimore, No. 92). Kaufusi came in as a substitute in the Raven’s 20-19 victory over Indianapolis.  He recorded one pass deflection in 15 defensive snaps (20%), with one special teams snap (3%).

Tejan Koroma (C, Kansas City). After a promising summer was injured and waived prior to preseason.

Harvey Langi (LB, New England, No. 48). Langi did not play in New England’s 37-20 victory over Philadelphia. He suffered an internal laceration after a hit in practice last week and will likely miss at least another 3-4 weeks due to concerns with his kidney.

Tomasi Laulile (DT, Indianapolis, No. 66).  Laulile came in as a substitute in Indianapolis’s 20-19 loss to Baltimore. He played 18 defensive snaps (26%) and recorded no stats.
Preseason Totals: Two games, one solo tackle, one assisted tackle.

Dallin Leavitt (S, Oakland, No. 45). Leavitt came in as a substitute in Oakland’s 19-15 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.  He recorded three solo tackles with one specials team tackle and one tackle for loss.  He played 39 defensive snaps (60%) and 15 special teams snaps (54%).

Jordan Leslie (WR, Denver, No. 19). Leslie came in as a substitute in Denver’s 24-23 loss to Chicago. He was targeted twice and had a 14 yard reception. Leslie played 15 offensive snaps (21%) and six special teams snaps (20%).
Preseason Totals: Two games, three receptions for 26 yards, one tackle

Kai Nacua (S, Baltimore, No. 31). Nacua came in as a substitute in the Raven’s 20-19 victory over Indianapolis.  He recorded two solo tackles, two assisted tackles, had one tackle for loss, and forced a fumble on a kickoff.  Nacua played 49 snaps on defense (66%), with another 12 on special teams (38%).

Colby Pearson (WR, Atlanta, No. 84). Pearson came in as a substitute in Atlanta’s 28-14 loss to Kansas City. He played three offensive snaps (5%) with one target but did not complete a reception.
Preseason Totals: Two games, no stats

Daniel Sorensen (S, Kansas City, No. 49).  Sorensen did not play in Kansas City’s 28-14 victory over Atlanta. He suffered a tibial plateau fracture in practice earlier this preseason as well as an MCL injury and lateral meniscus tear in the knee.  After undergoing surgery Sorensen is expected to miss at least the first part of the season before he is re-evaluated.

Jonah Trinnaman (WR, New York, No. 9). Trinnaman did not play in New York’s 15-13 loss to Washington.
Preseason totals: One game, no stats

Kyle Van Noy (LB, New England, No. 53). Van Noy started at linebacker in New England’s 37-20 victory over Philadelphia. He recorded two solo tackles, one assisted tackle, a 13 yard sack, two tackles for loss, and a quarterback hurry. Van Noy played 35 snaps with the defense (44%).
Preseason Totals: Two games, three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry.

Fred Warner (LB, San Francisco, No. 48). Warner came in as a substitute in San Francisco’s 16-13 loss to Houston. He recorded three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery in his NFL debut.  Warner played 34 defensive snaps (47%) and six special teams snaps (21%).

De’Ondre Wesley (OT, Buffalo, No. 74).  Wesley came in as a substitute in Buffalo’s 19-17 victory over Cleveland.  He played 33 offensive snaps (46%) and two special teams snaps (6%) while recording no stats.
Preseason Totals: Two games, no stats.

Jamaal Williams (RB, Green Bay, No. 30).  Williams started at running back in Green Bay’s 51-34 victory over Pittsburgh.  He rushed two times for two yards and had a six yard reception before leaving the game with a sprained ankle.  Williams is questionable for the playing the rest of the preseason.  He played 17 snaps (24%).
Preseason Totals: Two games, seven carries for 18 yards, two receptions for 14 yards, one receiving touchdown.
