Getting to know incoming BYU football signee, Utah Graduate Transfer, WR Samson Nacua (Class of 2016)

Samson Nacua is a BYU football signee for the Class of 2021, signing with the Cougs on May 1, 2021. 

Nacua is a 6-foot-3 195 pound graduate transfer that plays wide receiver.  He played four seasons at the University of Utah, getting eight starts in 45 career games.  He started as a walk-on but was awarded a scholarship in 2016.  Nacua had 82 career receptions for 1015 yards and 11 touchdowns. During his sophomore campaign he had 31 receptions for 362 yards and five touchdowns (to lead the Utes).  During his junior season he also led the team in touchdown receptions with four.  He only played in four games as a senior, recording four receptions for 29 yards and a score (ESPN).  

Nacua prepped at Timpview High School (Provo, Utah) where he played both wide receiver and quarterback.  As a senior he completed 6-of-9 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns, rushed 22 times for 123 yards and a score, and caught 64 passes for 1359 yards and nine touchdowns.  He also returned 16 kickoffs for 418 yards (26.1 avg) and a touchdown, and two punts for 40 yards (MaxPreps).  He was named to the All-State first team.  As a junior he completed 12-of-22 passes for 125 yards and an interception, rushed 19 times for 79 yards and three touchdowns, and caught 42 passes for 641 yards and eight scores.  He also returned nine kickoffs for 131 yards, and seven punts for 64 yards.

Out of high school Nacua was rated 3-stars by ESPN and 247Sports (0.8493), who rated him the no. 13 overall prospect from Utah for the class of 2016. He had scholarship offers to Weber State and Snow College.  

Samson will be joined at BYU by his younger brother Puka who is transferring from Washington.  Older brothers Kai and Isaiah both played for BYU.  Samson is immediately eligible to play for the Cougs as a graduate transfer.
