Welcome Back… BYU Football Profile: Rhett Sandlin (Class of 2012)

sandlin_rhett_por2Rhett Sandlin is a 6’3” 230 pound linebacker for the BYU football team (Class of 2012). He spent the 2012 season as a member of the scout team and then departed on an LDS mission to Nashville, Tennessee.  He returned to BYU in time to participate in 2015 spring camp where linebackers coach Kelly Poppinga told the Daily Herald that “In the last three or four practices, he’s shown me things that indicate he might be able to help us this fall.”

Sandlin prepped at Alta High School (UT), where he was a three year starter for the Hawks. As a junior he had 129 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and was a first team all-region and honorable mention all-state selection. As a senior he had 60 tackles, 2 sacks and again was a first team all-region and honorable mention all-state selection.  He totaled 256 tackles in his high school career.

Sandlin was rated 3-stars by Scout and by Rivals, who ranked him the No. 7 recruit in the state of Utah. ESPN rated him 2-stars (grade of 73). An early commit to BYU (October 25, 2010), he was also recruited by Navy, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
