Linebacker U? BYU commits Borg and Baker taking their game to the next level (BYU football Prep Tracker Week 7)

BYU has done a remarkable job at developing linebackers who aren’t just drafted, but experience major success in the NFL.

Bywater, Kaufusi, Wilson, Pili, Wilgar, Tooley.

It is likely that at least a couple of the current linebacker group will be moving on to The League in the next year or two.

And the cupboards aren’t bare.

Indeed, BYU has a very bright future at the linebacker position, as evidenced by the top recruits in the BYU football classes of 2023 and 2024.

And in week 7 of prep football it was BYU linebacker commits that stole the show.  Corner Canyon linebacker Owen Borg had a career night with eight tackles, two tackles for loss, two passes defended and two interceptions to help CC defeat no. 2 ranked Skyridge.

Meanwhile, it was just another day for class of 2024 commit Easton Baker and the Stansbury defense, who hasn’t allowed double digit points in their last four games.  Baker had what has become a typical night for him—recording 11 tackles, one pass breakup, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Three other commits—classified as “athletes”, but sometimes lining up on defense at linebacker—also had big nights. Skyline star Miles Hall had one 61-yard touchdown reception, a zero-yard carry, eight tackles (two solo), and a tackle for loss. New California commit Chance Harrison had 11 tackles (seven solo), and Washington athlete Leo Pulalasi is on pace for a record-breaking season on offense and on defense.  He didn’t play linebacker this week, but did have three carries for 55 yards and a touchdown and two receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown.

As BYU commits are crushing it on the field, the cougar coaching staff continues to look for talent. On Sunday, 3-star linebacker Blake Tabaracci (Park City, UT) was offered a scholarship by the Cougs.  The versatile junior has also lined up at quarterback, receiver, running back, and punter this season (MaxPreps). Tabaracci now has nine offers including Arizona, BYU, Colorado, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon State, Stanford, USC, and Utah.
