Big-time performances from commits Pulalasi, Davis, Bowers, and Phillips – BYU football Prep Tracker 2022: Week 4

Prep football started this week in Arizona and Washington and continued for the rest of the BYU football commits. In total there are 18 verbal commits to the BYU football program: 14 players committed as part of the Class of 2023, three in the Class of 2024, and one in the Class of 2025.  Here’s how they did this weekend in high school football:

Top Performers

The top BYU recruits in Utah, California, and Texas this weekend included:

  • Lakes High School (Washington, 1-0) started their season off September 2nd with a 50-23 win over Kentwood. Pulalasi was the star of the show, rushing 10 times for 47 yards and three touchdowns and catching two passes for 13 yards and another score. He also returned a kickoff 37 yards, a punt 38 yards, and had five solo tackles with two tackles for loss

  • Jackson Bowers was dominant in his season opener in Arizona. He had some blocks that opened up huge holes, had a touchdown reception

  • Saimone Davis had four receptions for 45 yards and four solo tackles in his second game for Colleyville Heritage

  • Newest commit, Josiah Phillips of Sierra Canyon had his best game of the young season with three receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown

Utah Prep Rankings

Several of the schools with BYU commits are highly ranked in their various classifications.  Here are some of the current rankings for the state of Utah, out of 110 schools (per MaxPreps):

Owen Borg (LB, Class of 2023)

This week: Corner Canyon (UT 6A, 3-1) defeated West Jordan 47-14.  They are currently ranked no. 63 nationally.  Borg missed the game with health concerns but will be back in-action soon (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals:  In two games Borg has 17 tackles (11 solo), one interception.

Ryder Burton (QB, Class of 2023)

This Week: Springville (Utah 5A, 3-1) suffered their first defeat of the season, losing to Riverton 22-15.  Stats are not yet available for Springville but Burton did have two touchdown passes in the game (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals: In two games Burton is 17-of-31 passing for 261 yards and two touchdowns to one interception.  Nine carries for 23 yards and two touchdowns.

Dallin Johnson (DT, Class of 2024).

This Week: Springville (Utah 5A, 3-1) suffered their first defeat of the season, losing to Riverton 22-15.  Stats are not yet available for Springville (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals: In two games Johnson has 10 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups

Matthew Fredrick (TE/DE, Class of 2023).

This Week: East (Utah 5A, 2-2) defeated Park City 21-14 in their region opener. Stats for East are not yet available (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals: In three games Fredrick has two receptions for 30 yards.

Miles Hall (ATH, Class of 2023)

This Week: Skyline (Utah 5A, 2-2) fell to Bountiful 16-14. Hall had a quiet four receptions for 64 yards and no defensive stats for the game (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals: In four games Hall has 17 receptions for 391 yards and five touchdowns, one carry for zero yards, and two kickoff returns for 34 yards.  On defense he has 39 tackles (18 solo), two passes defended, one forced fumble, and two tackles for loss. Hall is ranked no. 10 in the state in total receiving yards (no. 4 in 5A).

Pokai Haunga (WR, Class of 2023).

This Week: Timpview (Utah 5A, 4-0) defeated Bingham 49-30 on the road. Haunga did not play due to injury (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals: In one game Haunga has two receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown.  On defense he four solo tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and one 35-yard interception.

Stanley Raass (DL, Class of 2023).

Easton Baker (LB, Class of 2024).

This Week: Stansbury (Utah, 3-0) defeated Uintah 48-8. Baker had four tackles (three solo) in the win (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Season Totals: In four games, Baker has 24 tackles (14 solo), six tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble.

Adney Reid (ATH, Class of 2024)

This Week: Reid competed for Spanish Fork as a Freshman but is currently living in Australia where his parents are serving as mission president. He is not playing American football currently (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Texas Prep Football

There are two BYU football commits from Texas: running back Landen Chambers (Fossil Ridge), and athlete Saimone Davis (North Texas). Texas football starts the last week of August.

Landen Chambers (RB, Class of 2023).

This Week: Fossil Ridge (Texas, 1-1) fell to Braswell 48-21 on the road.  Chambers had 20 carries for 87 yards and two receptions for nine yards (MaxPreps, HUDL).

Season Totals: In two games Chambers has 46 carries for 233 yards and two touchdowns, and six receptions for 54 yards.

Saimone Davis (ATH, Class of 2023).

This Week: Colleyville Heritage (Texas, 1-0) fell to Texas 48-23. Davis had four receptions for 45 yards and four solo tackles (MaxPreps).

Arizona Prep Football

There are two BYU football commits from Arizona: tight end Jackson Bowers from Mountain View, and linebacker Pierson Watson from Coconino.

Jackson Bowers (TE, Class of 2023)

This Week: Mountain View (Arizona 6A, 0-1) lost at Helix 24-21 to start their season. Stats are not yet available but Bowers did have one touchdown reception in the game (MaxPreps).  Mountain View is currently ranked no. 16 in Arizona (out of 175 schools).

Pierson Watson (LB, Class of 2023).

This Week: Coconino (Arizona 4A, 0-0) start their season on September 9th against Blue Ridge (MaxPreps).  They start the season ranked no. 67 (out of 175 Arizona schools).

Washington Prep Football

There is one BYU football commit from Washington state: athlete Leo Polalasi (Lakes HS).  Washington football starts football the first week of September.

There is one BYU football commit from Oklahoma: defensive lineman Andrew Heinig (Westpool HS).

This Week: Glenpool High School (Oklahoma 5A, 1-1) defeated Skiatook at home 21-14. Stats have not yet been reported (MaxPreps). Glenpool is ranked no. 135 in Oklahoma out of 261 schools.

California Prep Football

There is one BYU football commit from California: wide receiver JoJo Phillips (Sierra Canyon HS).

Josiah Phillips (WR, Class of 2023).

This Week: Sierra Canyon High School (California, 1-2) got their first win of the season defeating Green Valley 35-16. Phillips had three receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown (MaxPreps).

Season Totals: 10 receptions for 218 yards and one touchdown
