BYU Basketball Commit: Payton Dastrup (Class of 2014)

payton_dastrupPayton Dastrup is a class of 2014 BYU basketball recruit. He played high school basketball at Mountain View High School (Mesa, AZ) where he was named All-Tribune honorable mention as a sophomore way back in 2011-12. As a senior at Mountain View he averaged 18.1 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game. He was named second-team Division 1 All-Arizona by AZcentral.com, first-team All-Tribune by the East Valley Tribune, and all-district player of the year by Varsity Xtra. Dastrup is now the all-time points and rebounds leader at Mountain View. He also played on MVHS’s volleyball team.

Rated a 4 star recruit and the 95th ranked player in the class of 2014 by ESPN, Dastrup originally committed to Ohio State, but he flipped his commitment to the Cougars on signing day. He joins T.J. Haws, Ryan Andrus, Dalton Nixon, and Jake Toolson in one of BYU’s best recruiting classes of all-time. Dastrup had offers from BYU, Arizona, ASU, Boston College, Cal, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, NC Sate, Ohio State, Oregon, OSU, St. John’s, Stanford, Texas A&M, UC-Davis, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Utah, USU, Virginia, Washington State. He left on an LDS mission to Panama straight from High School (July 2014) and plans to enroll at BYU in time to play the 2016-17 season.
