
Nathaniel Gillis committed and signed to the BYU football program (Class of 2022) on national signing day (February 2, 2022), announcing his commitment Tuesday via Twitter:

Gillis is a 6-foot-2 170 pound defensive back and wide receiver that preps at Steel Canyon High School (Spring Valley, CA), where as a senior he had two carries for seven yards, 13 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown, 44 tackles (28 solo), with four passes defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and three interceptions (MaxPreps). He was named to the All-League first-team on defense (East County Sports).
Gillis is a 3-star recruit by 247 sports (82) that will join the Cougars on scholarship for the 2022 season. He was recruited as a defensive back and reported runs a 4.42 forty.
I caught up with Gillis to ask him about his recruiting.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Gillis: I felt wanted here. That instead of simply joining a school I was actually joining a family. I feel I can be very focused out here, and the way BYU’s football is set up I can reach my full potential on the field.
BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?
Gillis: I was getting interest from a few D2 and JUCO schools. Washington State showed a little interest.
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Gillis: R&B music and I love marshmallow Lucky Charms

Gillis: Making the Grossmont league first-team defense
