
Maverick McManus is one of the new recruits that has committed to play for BYU football (Class of 2023), announcing his commitment last week via Twitter:

McManus is a 6-foot-6 250-pound defensive end and tight end that preps at Westlake High School (Saratoga Springs, Utah), where as a senior he had 34 tackles (33 solo), with 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and a two-yard touchdown reception (MaxPreps). He also plays for the basketball team and can run a reported 4.81 forty, has a 38-inch vertical, and can bench 300 pounds (HUDL).
McManus holds a scholarship offer from Utah Tech and has received recruiting interest from Colorado State, Southern Utah, Utah, Utah State, and Washington State. He will join BYU as a preferred walk-on.
I caught up with McManus to ask him about his recruiting.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
McManus: I chose BYU because it felt like home. The coaches and culture are great and it’s something you want to be a part of.
BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?
McManus: Utah, Utah State, Washington state, Utah tech, SUU, Colorado State
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
McManus: I love to snowboard, play basketball, and hang out with my friends.
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
McManus: “What you put in is what you get out.”
BYU Insider: Who is an athlete that you seek to emulate?
McManus: David Goggins (ultra-endurance athlete and former Navy SEAL)
