Prior to his BYU career Sharp originally signed and redshirted with the University of Utah but transferred to the Y following his LDS mission to Houston Texas. Was named to the first-team all-state team and was team captain averaging 13.5 points and 6.3 rebounds as a senior. He was recruited by Weber State and the University of Utah.

Sharp is married to Jordan and they have a daughter (Jaycee).
