As a senior had 50 tackles (27 solo) with 18 tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, a safety, and 11 sacks (HUDL). He was named to the 5A All-state First-team (Deseret News).
Recruitment. Nelson was rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.7970). He received scholarship offers from BYU and Idaho State, and was also recruited by Boise State, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Tech, and Weber State. Nelson committed to BYU on February 5, 2020.
