John Nelson: DL #94, Class of 2020

John Nelson is a 6-foot-4 275-pound defensive lineman for Brigham Young University, recruited as part of the Class of 2020.

BYU summary: In his first year at BYU (roster years 2021-22), Nelson played in all 13 games and recorded 12 tackles (6 solo), with two tackles for loss and a pass breakup (BYUcougars.com).

High School. Nelson prepped at Salem Hills (Spanish Fork, Utah), where he played on both the offensive and defensive lines.  As a senior had 50 tackles (27 solo) with 18 tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, a safety, and 11 sacks (HUDL). He was named to the 5A All-state First-team (Deseret News).

Recruitment. Nelson was rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.7970).  He received scholarship offers from BYU and Idaho State, and was also recruited by Boise State, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Tech, and Weber State. Nelson committed to BYU on February 5, 2020.
