Getting to know incoming BYU football commit, 3-star DE John Henry Daley (Class of 2021)

John Henry Daley is a BYU football commit for the Class of 2021, signing with the Cougs on December 16, 2020. 

Daley is a 6-foot-4 225 pound defensive end that prepped at Lone Peak High School (Alpine, Utah).  As a senior he recorded 82 tackles (49 solo), 38 tackles for loss, 22 (first in the state of Utah and the 8th most in the country), 15 quarterback hurries, three pass deflections, two fumble recoveries (both returned for touchdowns), three forced fumbles, a safety, and two blocked punts. On offense he had one rush for 8 yards and a 97-yard touchdown reception (MaxPreps). He was first-team All-State and award the 6A defensive MVP.

As a junior Daley recorded 43 tackles (24 solo), 20 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, one pass deflection, and two fumble recoveries.  As a sophomore he had 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass deflections, and one fumble recovery.  He runs a 10.9 100 meters and a

Daley is rated a high 3-star (0.8701) prospect by 247Sports, who have him ranked as the no. 9 overall prospect from the state of Utah for the Class of 2021. He was also rated 3-star by Rivals. Daley received scholarship offers from Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, Stanford, UNLV, and Washington State.  

John Henry’s father Neal Daley was a BYU linebacker from 1993-95, his uncles David Nixon, Craig Bills, and Taysom Hill played for the Cougs in the 2000s, and his brother Michael is currently on the football team (Class of 2019).  Daley plans to serve an LDS mission and will join the Cougs for the 2023 season.
