High School. Tukuafu prepped at East High School (Glendale, Utah), where as a senior he had 16 receptions for 319 yards, averaging 19.9 yards per reception (MaxPreps).
Recruitment. Tukuafu was rated 2-stars by 247Sports (0.7782), who rated him the no. 13 overall prospect from Utah for the Class of 2014. He held scholarship offers from Utah and Utah State with recruiting interest from BYU and Oregon State. Tukuafu originally committed to Utah (7/15/13), then committed to Utah State (2/4/14). However, after severing his LDS mission to Argentina he enrolled at BYU (1/9/17).
