Transfer Profile: 3-star Utah OL James Empey (Class of 2017)

BYU Football announced yesterday that 3-star offensive lineman James Empey will be joining the team.

Empey prepped at American Fork High School (Utah), where he had 62 tackles, two tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries, and 3.5 sacks as a senior (2014).  He was named to the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune 5A All-State first teams as an offensive guard.  Following high school Empey served a full-time LDS mission in Portugal.

Empey is rated 3-stars by Scout, Rivals, and ESPN (grade of 74), and was rated the No. 14 ranked prospect from Utah (247Sports) out of high school. He received scholarship offers from Boise State, BYU, Nevada, Oregon State, Utah, Utah State, Washington, and Washington State. Empey was also recruited by Arizona State, Cal, Navy, Oregon, Stanford, and Wisconsin.

Empey committed to the University of Utah January 2015 but de-committed upon the completion of his LDS mission.  He is the son of BYU Offensive Line Coach and former Cougar offensive lineman Mike Empey.
