BYU Basketball lands commitment from JUCO transfer Jahshire Hardnet (c/o 2017)

The Cougars added a lefty point guard to their basketball lineup with today’s verbal commit of Jahshire Hardnet, a 5-foot-11 170 pound JUCO transfer originally from Gulfport, Mississippi.

Hardnet spent last season at Chipola after redshirting at Fordham during the 2015-16.  At Chipola he played in 30 games and averaged 13.0 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds while shooting .560 from the field and .439 from three point land.  He was named the Panhandle Conference Freshman of the Year.

Hardnet started his prep career at Gulfport High School where as a sophomore he averaged 14.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.  As a junior he averaged 22.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals, leading his team to the Mississippi Class 6A championship. He was named to the Sun Herald’s All-South Mississippi team and to the Clarion-Ledger’s Dandy Dozen team.  He then transferred to Arlington County Day School (Jacksonville, FL) where as a senior he averaged 13 points and five rebounds before transferring back to Gulfport.  Due to eligibility issues his recruiting cooled and he ultimately signed with Fordham.

Coming out of High School Hardnet was rated 3-stars by Scout, Rivals, and ESPN. At one point he had more than 30 scholarship offers, including: Cal, Clemson, Connecticut, Fordham, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Houston, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Morehead State, Murray State, Northwestern, Penn State, Saint Louis, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UTEP, Western Kentucky, and Wichita State. He will have three years to play three at BYU.
