BYU Football Profile: Jacob Jimenez (Class of 2015)

jimenez_jacob_por2Jacob Jimenez is a 6’5” 275 pound offensive guard commit for the BYU football team (Class of 2015). He is projected as #2/3 left guard for the 2015 season.

Jimenez prepped at Pflugerville High School (TX), where he was a three year starter on the offensive line. He was named to the All-District 16-5A second team as a junior and the All-District first team as a senior, and was academic all-district all three years. He also threw the shot put and discus for the track team. BYU was attracted to Jimenez for his versatility. In an interview with he shared how that versatility helped BYU land him over Oregon State:

jimenez_jacob_por1“I have a legitimate chance to start because of my versatility, my sophomore year in HS I played LT and RT, my JR year I played G and RT and then my senior year I would just play wherever, it could change from week to week. The coach would call me the week before and say this week you will be at G, and then the next week you will be at C, and I was okay, let’s go. I felt like BYU was giving me a shot and that I wasn’t getting that at Oregon State. Coach Tujague sees me as someone who can come fight for a spot to start.”

Jimenez was rated 3-stars by ESPN (grade of 73), and 2-stars by Rivals and Scout. He held scholarship offers from BYU, Nevada, North Texas, Oregon State, Texas-San Antonio, and UTEP. He was also recruited by Arizona State, and Texas Tech. Jimenez first gave a verbal commit to OSU but then flipped and committed to and signed with the Cougars on signing day (February 2, 2015).
