High School. Perez prepped at Othello high school (Othello, Washington), where he was a two-time All-State honoree in football, and the first-ever three-time 2A state wrestling heavyweight champion. Also named 2A Senior Athlete of the Year (SBLive), All-League first-team (RB and DE), and league defensive MVP.
Recruitment. Perez was rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8025), who rated him the no. 40 overall prospect from Washington in the Class of 2020. He held scholarship offers from BYU, Howard, and Utah State, and was also recruited by Cal, Eastern Washington, Harvard, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington State, and Wisconsin. Perez committed to BYU on March 7, 2019.
Personal. Uncles Ryand and Eddie Keele both played football for BYU.
