Perez preps at Othello High School (2A, Othello, WA), where as a junior he was named to the All-League first-team as both a running back and defensive end, and was named the league defensive MVP. As a sophomore had six offensive touchdowns. He was named to the All-Conference first team at defensive end and second team at running back. He was also selected as the league defensive MVP, won a state title in wrestling, and placed seventh in the state in shotput.
Perez is rated 3-stars by 247Sports. He holds scholarship offers from BYU and Howard and has seen recruiting interest from Cal, Eastern Washington, Harvard, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington State, and Wisconsin. He has two uncles (Ryan and Eddie Keele) who played football for BYU.

I caught up with Perez to ask him about his recruiting.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Perez: I chose BYU because I really feel at home there and I feel like BYU can help me pursue more than just my football dreams.
BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?
Perez: I have recently have been shown a lot of interest from WSU, Cal Berkeley, Oregon State, and a few other schools.
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Perez: My favorite music would probably have to be from the artists Drake and Gunna, I also like raeggeton. Favorite cereal is definitely Captain Crunch!
BYU Insider: What is one of your greatest accomplishment in sports?
Perez: Winning state in wrestling the past two years and hopefully capturing my third title next year!

Perez: I really like the play of Frank Clark of the Seahawks and I want to emulate his quickness and tenacity!
