Isaac Rex: TE #83, Class of 2017

Isaac Rex is a 6-foot-6 247-pound tight end for Brigham Young University, recruited as part of the Class of 2017.

BYU summary: In three seasons at BYU (roster years 2019-2022), Rex has played in 27 games and has caught 56 passes for 643 yards and 15 touchdowns (BYUcougars.com).

  • 2022 (Sophomore).
  • 2021 (Freshman). Started 11 of 12 games played. Had 10 receptions for 191 yards and three touchdowns).  Named to Phil Steele All-Independent first team.
  • 2020 (COVID Freshman). Played in all 12 games with eight starts. Had 12 receiving touchdowns which tied for no. 1 nationally among tight ends, and was no. 3 nationally in all positions.  Ranked no. 1 nationally for Freshman tight ends in receptions (37), receiving yards (429), and receiving touchdowns (12). Was named 2020 Freshman All-American (the Athletic).
  • 2019 (Redshirt). Played in three games and had one 23 yard reception.
  • 2017-2018 (LDS Mission). Samoa

High School. Rex prepped at San Clemente high school (San Clemente, California), where as a senior he had 26 receptions for 275 yards and three touchdowns (MaxPreps). Helped lead San Clemente to a CIF state title in 2016 and was named to the All-CIF first-team in 2015 and 2016.  He was also selected to play in the Polynesian Bowl. Rex played linebacker as a junior and had 44 tackles (26 solo) with one tackle for loss, one quarterback hurry, and two interceptions. Rex also played on the basketball team and was recruited to play collegiate basketball.

Recruitment. Rex was rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8187), and was ranked the no. 47 tight end nationally for the Class of 2017. Rex was recruited by Arizona State, Colorado State, Hawaii, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Jose State, UCLA, USC, Utah, Utah State, and Virginia. Rex committed to BYU on March 19, 2016.

Personal. Father, Byron, was a tight end for BYU.  Isaac is an Eagle scout and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Samoa.
