Offensive lineman Ian Fitzgerald is the newest recruit to commit to play for BYU football (graduate transfer, Class of 2023).  He announced his commitment this afternoon, as reported on Twitter:

Fitzgerald is a 6-foot-5 299-pound offensive lineman that played the last four seasons (2018-2022) for Missouri State University.  As a three-year starter Fitzgerald made 29 straight starts at right tackle, and only allowed one sack in 2021 in pass protection at right tackle.

Since the 2022 season concluded Fitzgerald has since been offered scholarships by Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Boise State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, New Mexico State, Temple, Tulane, UAB, UNLV, Utah State, and Western Kentucky.

On his recruiting he said:

“The recruiting process for me overall was hectic. The past month has been a wild ride with ups and downs. BYU came into the picture in the last couple weeks and was really the culmination of everything I was wanting. They have a good staff that has stability on the offensive side, with the fan base and level of competition I was looking for. I’m excited to get to work and see what Provo has to offer for the next year of my life!”

Fitzgerald prepped at Lake Zurich High School (Hawthorn Woods, IL), where as a senior he earned All-Area and All-Conference honors while helping lead his team to the Illinois Class 7A title game (MSU profile).  He joins the Cougars with one year of eligibility remaining.
