Houston Heimuli is joining the BYU football program as a graduate transfer (class of 2022). He announced his commitment yesterday (January 5, 2022) via Twitter:

Heimuli is a 5-foot-11 265-pound fullback that was an All-PAC12 honorable mention and the Jack Huston Award winner in 2020, and a team captain and Outstanding senior award winner in 2021. Over his four years at Stanford Heimuli was primarily a blocking back but he also had eight receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown. He recently completed his degree in Human Biology.
He prepped at Bountiful High School (Woods Cross, Utah), where he was the 2014 Region 6 MVP, a two-time All-State fullback, and a two-time team captain. Heimuli also competed in track, soccer, and rugby and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Following high school he served an LDS mission in Indianapolis.
Heimuli was rated a 3-star composite by 247Sports (.8258), was rated the no. 3 recruit in Utah by PrepStar, and Scout, ESPN, and PrepStar all had him as the no. 2 fullback nationally. He held scholarship offers from Air Force, Northern Arizona, Weber State, and Stanford, with interest from BYU and Utah.
His father Lakei played football at BYU and was the starting fullback on the 1984 national championship team, and played professionally for the Chicago Bears (1987). Houston’s uncle Hema Heimuli also played for BYU.
I caught up with Heimuli to ask him about his recruiting.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Heimuli: Because of the offense they run, Kalani’s style and coaching is very appealing, and BYU being my dad’s alma mater.
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Heimuli: I am a big nerd. I love comics, Japanese anime, documentaries on anything scientific, and musicals.
BYU Insider: What is one of your greatest accomplishments?
Heimuli: Graduating from Stanford for me was a big deal.
BYU Insider: Who is a current player that you seek to emulate on the field?
Heimuli: Kyle Juszczyk (Fullback, San Francisco 49ers). An old school player would probably by Mike Tolbert (former fullback for the San Diego Chargers) or Mike Alstott (former fullback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).
BYU Insider: Is there anything else you’d like Cougarfans to know about you?
Heimuli: I want Cougar fans to know that I’ll be working hard to earn a place here at BYU. I turned down scholarships from a couple other schools and will be transferring as a PWO, but that just shows how much I want this and want to play here.
