
Yesterday BYU football offered and received a verbal commitment from 6-foot-1, 205 pound linebacker and cornerback recruit George Udo (Class of 2019).

Udo preps at Berean Christian High School (Walnut Creek, CA), where he last season in just 10 games he recorded 137 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, one interception, and 17 sacks. As a junior (2017) he had 60 tackles (38 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, one pass defended, two fumble recoveries (with one returned for a touchdown), and two interceptions. He also returned two kickoffs for 61 yards.
He also plays on the basketball team and competes in track and field. As a junior he ran a 10.93 100 meter on the track, which was good for 1st place in the NCS Class A Championships, and high jumped 6-0 for 2nd place. His numbers are off the charts with a 4.32 40 time, a 37 inch vertical, and a bench press of 325 pounds.
Udo is rated 2-stars by 247 Sports and is not yet rated by Rivals or ESPN. He holds scholarship offers from Sacramento State, San Diego, and UC-Davis and has seen interest from California, Cal-Poly, and Oregon State. BYU plans to use him at the cornerback position.

I caught up with Udo to talk to him about his commitment.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU? Why do you feel BYU is a good fit for you?
Udo: I chose BYU first because of the high level of football here. They play Power 5 schools and compete against some of the best in the nation. But when I came up here I loved the atmosphere. I got to watch the practice and see how the offense and defense competed against each other as well has how they studied film.
BYU Insider: What do you most look forward to in suiting up for the cougars?
Udo: I can’t wait. I can’t wait to be able to get on the field on compete at the next level and play the sport I love with those amazing group of guys.
BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?
Udo: Cal, Oregon State, UC Davis, Sac State, San Diego, Cal Poly.
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Udo: My favorite genre of music is R&B and my favorite movie is probably Friday because it’s the funniest movie I’ve ever watched.
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Udo: The best advice I’ve received is to be smart in my decisions. My decisions in what I eat as well as other decision in life, like what will benefit me and others around me.
BYU Insider: Who is a current player (collegiate or pro) that you seek to emulate on the field?
Udo: Richard Sherman because of how smart he is on the field.
