Payson’s DE/TE Tyler Batty becomes BYU’s 17th commit for Class of 2017

Tyler Batty is a 6-foot-5 235 pound defensive end/tight end who made a commitment yesterday to play for the Cougars (Class of 2017).

Batty preps at Payson High School (Payson, UT), where in eight games as a senior he had one touchdown reception, 50 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks.  He earned a most valuable player award at the tight end position at the All-Poly Camp in June and as a junior he was named to the All-Region 8 and All-Valley first teams as a defensive lineman.

Batty is rated 2-stars by Scout, and is not yet rated by Rivals or ESPN. He holds scholarship offers from Air Force, BYU, Hawaii, Utah, and Utah State and was also being recruited by Princeton.  He likely won’t suit up for BYU until 2019 as he plans to serve an LDS mission following High School.
