At BYU Denney had 156 tackles (92 solo), 40 tackles for loss, 13 passes defended, two blocks, four quarterback hurries, and 16 sacks in 32 games. As a senior he was a second-team All-America selection by the NFL draft report.  He was invited to the Senior Bowl where he was named the North MVP, propelling him up the draft boards.

Denney was drafted in the second round (61st overall) of the 2002 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. In 113 games with the Bills he had 297 tackles (191 solo), 19 passes defended, two receptions for 44 yards and two touchdowns, and 23.5 sacks.

Denney is now the defensive line coach for Lone Peak high school in Alpine, Utah.
