Transfer Tracker: Former BYU commit, Oregon DT Wayne Kirby set to transfer to BYU

Wayne Irons Tei-Autagavaia Kirby is a 6’3” 315 lb. defensive tackle for Oregon who has announced he will transfer to BYU

As a freshman for the Ducks in 2016 Kirby played in nine games and recorded eleven total tackles (four solo, seven assisted), a fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.

He will enroll at BYU this month, and thereby be eligible to practice in Spring ball. He is seeking a waiver to be immediately eligible to play in the 2017 season.

Kirby actually started as a verbal commit for BYU’s football Class of 2016. The Cougars offered on June 26, 2015 following the All-Poly camp where Kirby was named the defensive lineman MVP.  Then, following offers from Utah and Oregon he re-opened his recruitment.

Kirby prepped at Highland (ID) High School, where as a senior he was a First-team All-Idaho selection and recorded 44 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five quarterback sacks, and three forced fumbles.  As a junior he led one of the best defenses in school history. He recorded 49 tackles and four sacks and was an Idaho State Journal all-area selection.

Kirby was rated 3-stars by Rivals, Scout, and ESPN (grade of 76).  Scout ranked him the best defensive tackle in Idaho and the 14th best in the west. He had scholarship offers from Army, BYU, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington State, and Weber State.  Kirby was also recruited by Boise State, Montana, Nevada, Portland State, UNLV, USU, and Washington.
