Petey Tuipulotu committed two weeks ago to the BYU football program (Class of 2020), announcing his commitment via Twitter:

Tuipulotu preps at Nation Ford High School, where as a junior he caught 15 passes for 146 yards (9.7 avg), rushed once for six yards, and had 57 solo tackles with 2 tackles for loss, three passes defended, and an 80 yard interception return.  As a sophomore he also had 15 receptions (for 106 yards). Tuipulotu also plays basketball and soccer for Nation Ford.

Tuipulotu is rated 3-stars by 247Sports. He saw recruiting interest from Maryland, Miami (OH), North Carolina, and Princeton. Tuipulotu has two brothers on the BYU football team (Hank and Benjamin).  His father Peter played running back for the Cougs from 1988 to 1991, in the NFL for the Chargers, and in the CFL for the Grey Cup Chimpion Baltimore Stallions. Petey plans to play a year for the Cougs and then serve an LDS mission.  He was BYU’s 15th commitment for the football class of 2020.

I caught up with Tuipulotu to ask him about his recruiting.

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?

Tuipulotu:  Because it’s been a dream of mine to play football there.  It also helps that I’ll have two brothers on the team.

BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?

Tuipulotu:  Miami (OH), Maryland, Princeton, and UNC

BYU Insider: What is one of your greatest accomplishment in sports?

Tuipulotu:  My two interceptions against Northwestern high school.  It was significant because our victory over them was the first in our school’s history.

BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Tuipulotu:  Just to flat out work hard
