Tai preps at Hawthorne High School, where he played both ways on the gridiron. He also plays for the Hawthorne basketball team where he is currently averaging 6.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Tai is rated 3-stars (grade of 74) by ESPN, and 2-stars by Rivals and Scout. He has scholarship offers from BYU and San Diego State and was also recruited by Arizona State, Ball State, Fresno State, Oregon State, Penn State, and UCLA.
