I caught up with Justen to ask him about his recruitment:
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Smith: I chose BYU because it has always been a dream of mine to play in Lavell Edwards Stadium. I love the team, the staff, the program, the fans…just everything about BYU is right. I also love the family atmosphere. Every coach and player I have met with and talked to has always made me feel welcome and part of the program. This truly is a brotherhood, and I just love that about BYU.
BYU Insider: What current or former BYU player do you admire and why?
Smith: It would be easy to say my dad, but I have always just loved Steve Young. He came in to BYU as almost a nobody but made the most of it and ended up in the Hall of Fame.
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Smith: I love Krispy Kreme glazed donuts, and I could eat Cafe Rio anytime.
BYU Insider: What are some of your greatest accomplishments?
Smith: Making the All-Region team and having the opportunity to play at BYU
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Smith: to do what is right, not what is easy.
BYU Insider: What are your personal goals for this season (2017)?
Smith: 100% on PAT’s and Field Goals, average a 90% touchback rate for kickoffs, and earn a spot in an All-American game after the camp in July.
BYU Insider: Anything else you’d like Cougarfans to know about you?
Smith: I am excited to get the opportunity to play at my dream school, Go Cougs!
