Francis Bernard is a 6’1” 230 pound running back for the BYU football team (Class of 2013). He is projected as #3/4 H-back for the 2015 season.
Bernard prepped at Herriman High School, where as a junior he ran for 1547 yards (8.7 yards/carry), and scored 22 touchdowns. He also had one touchdown receiving and one interception. As a senior he led the Mustangs in rushing with 822 yards (8.6 yards/carry) and 15 touchdowns, while also catching six passes for 107 yards and another TD. He had 24 tackles and four interceptions as a safety, two of which he took back for touchdowns. He also returned a punt return for a touchdown. This kid likes the end zone. For his career he has 3123 yards rushing with 45 touchdowns and 39 catches for 504 yards and three touchdowns (52 total touchdowns). Just don’t let him throw the ball. He was intercepted in all three of his pass attempts in high school—that’s probably the worst quarterback efficiency of all-time.
Bernard was the Region 7 Offensive MVP, and was named to the Deseret News 4A all-state first team as a junior. As a senior he was named to the Region 7 first-team and was an All-State honorable mention. He also played for the basketball and rugby teams. Following high school he served an LDS mission (Atlanta, Georgia). 2015 will be his freshman season.
